Where Winds Meet beginner guide

Follow the main introduction until core menus open, learn deflection and one weapon pair, and explore without trying to clear every marker immediately. This keeps progression clear and protects limited resources while you discover the play style you enjoy.

First-hour settings and account safety

Choose a server region deliberately: latency affects defensive timing and progress is tied to the selected region. If you plan to use another platform, link its account before creating a second character there. Separate characters cannot be merged through normal account linking.

Set camera sensitivity, lock-on behavior, subtitles and controls before difficult combat. Favor stable frame rate over maximum detail because readable attack animation helps deflection and dodge timing. Never use macros or unofficial automation tools.

A simple early progression route

Continue the opening story until the full interface and normal world activities unlock. Complete tutorials that introduce core systems; they are more useful than clearing remote markers without context. Activate nearby travel points and collect obvious resources, but return to the main objective when an activity requires a system you do not have.

Use the Improvement Guide and Path Tutorial when available. They show relevant development steps and let you test a Path's basic skills. Temporary events are optional; permanent story and system unlocks remove more friction from later play.

Combat tips for new players

Learn three defensive responses separately: deflect a readable direct strike, dodge an unsafe area or unfamiliar sequence, and create distance when the screen becomes unclear. Avoid exhausting Endurance with panic dodges. Practice on ordinary enemies until you recognize the attack cue.

Commit to one coherent primary and secondary weapon setup first. Learn light, heavy, Martial Art and special actions before copying a long combo. A build works because its weapons, Inner Ways and gear effects support one plan; individually rare pieces do not automatically form a build.

Resources and upgrades

Use common materials to keep your active setup functional, but hold limited conversion and high-tier resources until you understand your preferred Path. Read every reset or conversion preview before confirming. Costs and refunds can change, so the current in-game screen is authoritative.

Lock equipment you are comparing instead of recycling everything immediately. Upgrade parts that solve a real progression block rather than spreading resources across every weapon and Inner Way you find.

Exploration without checklist fatigue

Open travel points near your route. Mark an unresolved puzzle or guarded location and return later rather than forcing it while underprepared. Exploration uses abilities unlocked over time, so an inaccessible object is not always a hidden jumping puzzle.

Use the map for navigation, quests when an objective is unclear and the codes page for verified rewards. Compare weapon roles before build recommendations so you can judge whether a guide matches your preferred range, pace and defense.

Common beginner mistakes

Do not create multiple platform characters before linking, invest scarce materials into every new weapon or trust an undated tier list. Do not assume every temporary event must precede permanent story. Change one build element at a time and test against the same target so you know what improved.
